Cape Coast Educational Resource Centre opens its doors

After just over a year of construction work, the Cape Coast Educational Resource Centre opens its doors.

We are very proud of this great achievement and would like to thank all our sponsors, Turing Foundation, Fondation Les Paquerettes, InterimIC, Wilde Ganzen/St. Willibrord Gymnasium and the Western Union Foundation for making this possible.

On the 27th of March 2010 the official opening ceremony was held in the presence of local dignitaries, chiefs of the region, representatives of the Ghana Education Services, Mr. and Mrs. Kumi Bruce (owners of the land) and Board members and staff of To Be Worldwide Ghana/NL. But most important many children were present to witness the opening. The children also participated in the ceremony by performing music in a marching band and cultural dances. Bishop Augustine Wellbourne, who is a board member of To Be Worldwide, performed the official ribbon cutting.  After just over a year of construction work, the Cape Coast Educational Resource Centre opens its doors.

Everyone was impressed with the Centre and enthusiastic about its implications for the community. Children couldn't wait to see the Library and the Computer Classroom. They uttered “Wow” spontaneously!

After the official opening ceremony, we completed training of staff and are set for regular operations. Starting first with the Library, to be followed shortly by the Computer courses. We can already mention that in the first week of operations, we have registered 117 children as members of the Library. This number will increase significantly as the Centre has a potential to service 12 primary and junior secondary schools with a total of 5500 children attending these schools.

We would now like to say a big thank's  to the To Be Worldwide Ghana team and in particular Mrs. Georgina Williams for her work in getting the Cape Coast Centre operational. Look forward to keeping you inform of all the progress.
